Overseas Work Integrated Learning programs are an exciting way to enhance your employability skills by consulting and providing practical recommendations to a real business. Additionally, you will complete a unit towards your course and explore a new country and its culture.

This program will see you work in groups of 4 or 5 on a business consulting project assisting small to medium size enterprises with a business opportunity they have; generally revolving around marketing, project management and customer service. Projects briefs are developed to ensure your skills are enhanced and and you gain a comprehensive meaningful on how businesses overseas operate in a globally; one of the key aims is for you to apply your acquired knowledge and theories in a unique international context.
Rest assured that capabilities gained with these programs are invaluable regardless of the discipline you chose to spealise into. The added benefit is that you also gain an appreciation of the host country’s environmental and business cultures.

The majority of the programs run for a period of 2 weeks and are have subsidies options to ensure they are affordable to all students. You will be supported by Deakin and partner staff who will coordinate the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities and social activities.Please click on relevant tab for program specific information.

Note: Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.

Credit information
Postgraduate students can undertake MWL716 Consultancy Experience
Hurdle requirement- Students must successfully complete the WIL pre-placement modules before they can attain access to the unit dropboxes.
Assessment - Learning Portfolio 6000 words 100% TBC

Eligibility:
  • Postgraduate students must have completed six units prior to departure (including CPL).
  • Students need to be able to obtain a visa (please check this prior to applying).



 

Malaysia WIL Program

FBL Malayisa - Kuala LumpurAbout the program
Both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Business and Law students are invited to gain practical work experience in Malaysia as a unit towards their degree. Students will travel to Kuala Lumpur and will have the opportunity to complete a WIL unit over a 2 week period with a marketing, management and strategic consulting focus. Students will travel as a group of 20 and will work in teams of four. Students will be allocated to a local business and will work with the company to apply their management knowledge and theories from their degree in a unique international context. You will be supported by on-ground staff in Malaysia and Deakin academics who will manage the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities, social activities and free time.
 
Each project has been designed by Deakin Academic staff to provide sound academic content together with deep engagement between Deakin students, their industry professional and community leaders. Deakin students will work closely with their hosts in all of their nominated projects. All components have been structured so that the students gain an increased understanding of their host country’s environmental and business cultures.

Activities:
Students will work in a local company for 2 weeks, creating a business report. This may include analysis of the businesses' marketing, project management, customer service with an international focus.

Cost and Funding
The subsidised program cost will be $1000.
 
Please note, domestic commonwealth supported students (HECS) can apply to receive up to $8,149 from OS-Help funding to support your program. Please read the criteria carefully.

Vietnam WIL Program

FBL Vietnam WILAbout the program
Excellent opportunity for students to gain real life work experience while exploring Hanoi, Vietnam which is widely recognized  for it's rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influence. The Vietnam Work Integrated Learning Program has been developed in partnership with Hanoi School Business (HSB).  You will be supported by on-ground staff in HSB and Deakin staff who will manage the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities, social activities and free time.

Activities:
Students will work in a local company for 2 weeks, creating a business report which may analyse the businesses marketing, project management, customer service or international focus.

Saturday 20 June - Saturday 4 July



Cost and Funding
$4,000 AUD + flights.
^Full cost of the program to students is $4,000. Eligible students will be entitled to receive a $3,000 New Colombo Plan grant to support the cost of this program. Please see below for eligibility criteria.

New Colombo Plan (NCP) grants: This is a NCP funded program offering 15 x $3,000 NCP grants. You must meet the eligibility criteria to apply for the grant:
  • be an Australian citizen
  • you cannot receive a grant in a Host Location in which you have dual citizenship or residency rights;
  • be undertaking a Bachelor Degree or Bachelor Honours Degree
  • be between 18 and 28 years of age at the commencement of their program;
  • not have already commenced a period of overseas study in the same Host Location as the program;
  • not have receive more than one short-term and one Semester grant (with or without an internship) during their Australian course of study.
