General Information

FBL UG WILFaculty of Business and Law overseas WIL opportunities are an exciting way to complete units towards your course while exploring other countries and gaining real life work experience. Projects have been carefully developed by Deakin Academic staff so that your skills are pushed to the limit and you gain a comprehensive understanding how businesses overseas operate. The skills gained through these programs will be invaluable regardless of the discipline you have chosen to specialise. All components have been structured so that the students gain an increased understanding of their host country’s environmental and business cultures.

Students will work in groups of 4 or 5 on consultancy projects assisting small to medium size businesses. Programs range from 2 to 3 weeks and additional funding options are available to make programs more affordable to all students. Please click on relevant tab for program specific information.

Credit information
Unit Information
Undergraduate students can study MWL301 Team Internship.

Assessment 1: (Individual) - Pre-Internship tasks (1500 words) - 15%
Assessment 2: (Individual) - Reflective Learning Journal (1500 words) - 15%
Assessment 3: (Group of 4) - Project report and team presentation (5000-6000 words) - 50%
Assessment 4: (Individual) - Post-Internship Reflection (2000 words) - 20%

Eligibility:Completion of 8 credit points (including CPL) prior to starting placement.
This program is available to Deakin Business School students, who have space for a WIL unit/general elective.






 


England WIL Program

England WIL (East Anglia)
About the Program
This program is run in partnership with University of East Anglia (UEA), where students will travel to England and will have the opportunity to complete a WIL unit over a 2 week period with a marketing, management and strategic consulting focus. Students will be supported by on-ground staff in UEA and Deakin staff who will manage the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities, social activities and free time.
 
Locations:
East Anglia, England. (About 1 hour from London).
 
Activities:
Students will work in a local company for 2 weeks, creating a business report which may analyse the businesses marketing, project management, customer service or international focus.

Program Dates:
Friday 8 November - Monday 25 November 2019

Cost and Funding
The subsidised program cost will be $3,000.

South Korea WIL Program

Korea WIL ProgramAbout the Program
This is a great opportunity to be a part of the first WIL program run in South Korea in partnership with Sookmyung Women's University in South Korea. Students will have the opportunity to complete a consultancy project in the modern and culturally rich city of Seoul in South Korea.

You will be supported by Deakin and Sookmyung University staff who will manage the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities, social activities and free time.

Locations:
Seoul, South Korea

Activities:
Students will work in a local company for 2 weeks, creating a business report which may analyse the businesses marketing, project management, customer service or international focus. In addition students will also participate in a 2 - 3 day cultural immersion program where you will be able to learn more about the Korean culture.

Program Dates:
Friday 3 January - Sunday 19 January 2020

The program cost will be $1750.

Malaysia WIL Program

About the Program
Students are invited to join the very successful Malaysia WIL Program which has been running consecutively for the last 4 years. Both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Business and Law students are able to gain practical work experience. Students will be able to complete a consultancy project while enjoying the beautiful beaches and rainforest Kuching has to offer.

You will be supported by on-ground staff in Malaysia and Deakin academics who will manage the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities, social activities and free time.

Japan WIL Program

About the program
This an exciting opportunity for students to undertake a work placement opportunity in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo is one of the major transportation hubs and a world economic and industrial centre. The Japan Work Integrated Learning Program has been developed in partnership with Musashi University. You will be supported by on-ground staff in Japan and Deakin staff who will manage the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities, social activities and free time.There is NCP funding available for this program, please see ‘Cost and Funding’ section below for more information.

^Full cost of the program to students is $4,000. Eligible students will be entitled to receive a $3,000 New Colombo Plan grant to support the cost of this program. Please see below for eligibility criteria.
  • New Colombo Plan (NCP) grantsThis is a NCP funded program offering 20 x $3,000 NCP grants. You must meet the eligibility criteria to apply for the grant:be an Australian citizen
  • you cannot receive a grant in a Host Location in which you have dual citizenship or residency rights;
  • be undertaking a Bachelor Degree or Bachelor Honours Degree
  • be between 18 and 28 years of age at the commencement of their program;
  • not have already commenced a period of overseas study in the same Host Location as the program;
  • not have receive more than one short-term and one Semester grant (with or without an internship) during their Australian course of study.

Vietnam WIL Program

Vietnam WIL ProgramAbout the program
Excellent opportunity for students to gain real life work experience while exploring Hanoi, Vietnam which is widely recognized  for it's rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influence. The Vietnam Work Integrated Learning Program has been developed in partnership with Hanoi School Business (HSB).  You will be supported by on-ground staff in HSB and Deakin staff who will manage the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities, social activities and free time.

Hanoi, Vietnam
 
Activities:
Students will work in a local company for 2 weeks, creating a business report which may analyse the businesses marketing, project management, customer service or international focus.

Dates:
Sunday 17 November - Sunday 1 December 2019 (you will be required to arrive in Hanoi by Sunday 17th 12pm)



Cost and Funding
The subsidised program cost will be $2000.

Indonesia WIL Program

FBL Indonesia
About the Program
Students will travel to Yogyakarta, Indonesia and have the opportunity to undertake a WIL program run Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta (UTY). Students will be allocated a local business and will work both with the company and at the university to apply their management knowledge and theories from their degree in a unique international context.

You will be supported by Deakin and UTY staff who will manage the program and also facilitate site visits, networking opportunities, social activities and free time.
