Advanced Data Analytics Study Tour in India 2018 

This study tour is designed specifically for postgraduate level students only. It's a two-week tailored academic program, with a focus on advanced data analytics. Students will undertake classes and workshops at the VIT University Chennai Campus and also industry visits to Hyderabad, Telangana as well as cultural visits to iconic ancient landmarks including Mamallapuram. The academic program is advanced in terms of data analytics theory and platforms. Cloud platforms including Apache Spark, Hadoop, Google Colab and IBM Cloud will be utilized, and modern development including Deep Learning will be covered. As the assessment of the unit, the students will be required to complete a quality Hackathon project, with opportunities to team with VIT’s master students.

This is a unique opportunity to experience student life at a leading and progressive higher-education institution, which prides itself on its multi-cultural ambience and extensive application-oriented research.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to:

Unit of enrolment at Deakin: This is a T3 enrolment for 1 credit point at postgraduate level (no unit tuition fee applies)

Selection: Students will be selected based on academic performance and response to application questions.

In-country component: 

  • Students must arrive on Sunday 28th October
  • Day 1 of the Study Tour is Monday 29th October and the last day is Sunday 11th November. 
  • Total: 2 weeks

  • $1800 for Study Tour - program fee only (no unit tuition fee applies)

  • Twin share student accommodation on campus
  • In-country transport
  • Travel insurance for the length of the program
The fee does not include:
  • Flights
  • Passport and Visa fees

OS-HELP loan
Overseas Student HELP loans (OS-HELP) are provided by the Commonwealth government to eligible HECS-HELP students undertaking various international experiences for credit. This loan is added to your HELP debt and can be up to $7,998.

Important Notes

Important Information
  • A minimum number of 10 students is required for the program to run and places are limited.
  • Travel insurance is provided by Deakin for the length of the program, students travelling beyond the program dates will need to pay for additional coverage. 
  • Students are reminded to apply for Deakin Travel Insurance as soon as they have been accepted into the program to cover any unexpected withdrawals or costs that are incurred as refunds may not be available.
  • The OS Help loan can take up to 4 weeks to process so payments deadlines must be met regardless of the status of your loan.
  • All students must be approved by the Unit Chair and be able to enrol in the appropriate unit prior to being accepted onto the program.
  • Once accepted on the program students must pay a non-refundable deposit to confirm their spot. Students are reminded to apply for Deakin Travel Insurance as soon as they have been accepted into the program to cover any unexpected withdrawals or costs that are incurred as refunds may not be available.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your position on this Study Tour, cancellation fees will apply. A cancellation will only be effective when we receive written confirmation of the cancellation.
Where written notification of the cancellation is received, the cancellation charges are as follows:
 
  • Before date of deposit: No cancellation fees apply
  • After the date of deposit and prior to final payment: Deposit amount is forfeited
  • After final payment and prior to departure: All payments made are non-refundable
  • After final payment and after travel commenced: All payments made are non-refundable
