Study tour objectives:
Deakin Doctors in Vietnam
Global and Public Health, the Vietnamese Health System
29 December 2017 - 23 January 2018
Understanding health cultures and systems are essential for future medical leaders. Being immersed in the health care practices of our Indo-Pacific neighbours provides 2nd year Deakin Doctors with the context and opportunity to forge positive clinical and institutional relationships beyond undergraduate training.
Introductory sessions outlining culture, language, policy and history of medicine in Vietnam will occur in conjunction with medical students and academics from Pham Ngoc Thach (PNT) University of Medicine and non-government organisations working in the health field. Deakin medical students will then undertake 2-weeks of clinical observation training at Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City. Finally, to align with Deakin’s rural focus and Public Health Medicine assessment, students will visit rural communities and rural health organisations in in the Mekong Delta.
