About:40K plus project

40K Globe - Social Impact Group Internship/Volunteering February
Immersed in an Indian village and Bangalore, the tech hub of India, you will learn about the complexities of poverty reduction and challenge your opinions about your role in global social change. While you learn, you also get to be a part of scaling an edtech social enterprise that has been backed by Google and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, 40K PLUS.
PLUS is an after-school education platform that utilises technology to provide primary-aged students living in rural India access to high-quality English education (without which they cannot access tertiary education or a large portion of employment options). Currently spanning 50+ villages and servicing over 1300 children, the PLUS platform has proven to extend English comprehension by 2.5 years when compared to students who have not attended PLUS. In 2018, we’re looking to scale the platform to another 1000 students, increase student’s rate of growth through developing the ‘ed’ and the ‘tech’ and capture their powerful stories through 30+ new micro documentaries.

In a team of six to eight Globers, you’ll be working on one of 4 projects to scale and build the efficacy of 40K PLUS, through;
  1. Business: scope, implement and open a new 40K PLUS pod in a rural Indian village.
  2. Media: develop micro documentaries for the longitudinal study of village students
  3. Education: develop and implement learning modules that improve student outcomes
  4. Tech: identify, scope and develop features to improve the tech platform and scale

While it’s great to have people in each team with technical skills in the project area, it’s not essential! Creativity, innovation, and the best decision making comes from bringing diverse groups together. We provide technical guidance and supervision and create specific projects around the skills and experience of each team.

“Applying to be a part of 40K Globe was truly one of the best decisions I made; I loved my trip to India, the places I saw and broad range of things I learnt.
 I've made some incredible friends along the journey and I look forward to seeing how I stay involved in some capacity over the next year as well as beyond
 and how my life will continue to be influenced by this awesome organisation.

40K Globe40K

It all started in 2005, two uni students from Sydney took a holiday to India that would change their lives forever. Upon returning to Sydney they decided to raise AUD$40 000 to build a school for a quarry community outside Bangalore. The first 5 years of 40K’s life was dedicated to building the school.
Today 40K runs learning pods for 1,000 children that teach English for primary aged children through technology.

40K Globe is about teaching you what they themselves have learnt in order for you to generate social change.
