Flexible 4-12 weeks

The Individual Internship - Indonesia is an opportunity for you to undertake a comprehensive internship in one of the fastest growing capital cities in Southeast Asia: Jakarta, Indonesia. You will work closely with our partner International Internships to secure a placement tailored to your discipline and interests This program will not only provide you with valuable international work experience but will also give you the chance to build the foundations of an exciting and dynamic career.

Before your departure you will receive the tools to help you prepare for your time in Jakarta. Once you arrive, you will join a thorough orientation and have the chance to meet other interns, as well as local students. You will be accompanied to work on the first day and then, for the duration of the program, will be invited to networking events and capacity building opportunities, including one-on-one sessions to help you position yourself to take advantage of opportunities in the region.

This internship program is open to students from any discipline and Indonesian language skills are not required.
 

Dates: Mon 22nd October 2018 to Friday 1st March 2019
( Flexible 4 - 12 weeks within these dates )

  Your internship will take place in Jakarta, where you will work at your host organisation from approximately 9am-5pm each day, although work hours can vary depending on the organisation.

Nature of Work
The work given to you will be based around your skills and agreed role in the organisation. At the conclusion of your placement/s you will give a presentation attended by your managers.

About Indonesia

Prices vary depending on the duration of your internship.
4 weeks:   $2950

Funding
You may be eligible for an interest-free OS-HELP loan of up to $7,880.
• You may be eligible to receive a travel grant* of $3000 through the New Colombo Plan (NCP). To be eligible for this, you need to be an Australian citizen, under 28 years old, undertaking the program for credit or as a compulsory part of your degree and not have received a previous NCP funding. *Travel grants are limited
• You may also receive a very basic living allowance from your host company but please do not rely on this as your source of income while in country.

Youth Allowance and Austudy
If you are currently receiving Youth Allowance or Austudy you can continue to receive payments while studying overseas as long you have a full time study load for the year. The following link will provide more information on the Youth Allowance or Austudy

Application and Placement ProcessYogyakarta

Application Deadline: 5th December 2018

Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis and you may be notified of acceptance before applications close. Applications can be submitted via the APPLY NOW button.
  1. Apply for the program via this portal.
  2. Deakin Abroad will forward your details to the Faculty WIL team for course credit approval.
  3. Once Faculty approval has been obtained, you will be advised to apply through the International Internships website: http://www.internationalinternships.com.au/deakin-indonesia-internships-application/ 
  4. Attend an interview with International Internships, who will decide if you are successful in gaining a place on the program.
  5. To accept your place, you will pay a deposit of $400. In the event that you are unsuccessful in being placed at an organisation to which you agree, within agreed time limits, your deposit will be fully refunded.
  6. International Internships will work with you to find an internship placement that suits you. During this time you may be required to have a second interview with your prospective host organisation.
  7. Once an internship has been arranged, you will work with your faculty to gain academic sign off and enrol in your chosen unit.

Please note that applications will be subject to a competitive selection process and meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee a place in the program. 

Important to note:
• Preferred dates are negotiable with your host organisation.
• Travel insurance is provided by Deakin for the length of the program plus 10 days of leisure travel before or after the program. Students travelling more than 10 days beyond the program dates will need to pay for additional coverage.
• Students must register for the free Deakin travel insurance.
• The OS Help loan can take up to 4 weeks to process so payment deadlines must be met regardless of the status of your loan.
• The program deposit and fee will be paid directly to International Internships.
